Why Do We Put Fairies, Angels and Stars on Top of Christmas Trees?

If you are like me, you may have wondered why you put a fairy on top of your Christmas tree!
This tradition can be traced back to Germany where it’s believed that fairies bring good luck to new babies and are a symbol of fertility. It also represents the Angel that announced the fore coming and birth of Jesus.
In German folklore, fairies are used to save the tree in case of a fire. This can be done by flying around with their little wings and sprinkling fairy dust on them, which will have the effect of putting out any flames.
They are also used to protect Christmas trees from storms because fairies don’t like being wet or cold when they fly around! They know that if you have an unlucky Christmas tree, then this unlucky Christmas might end up burning down your house!
So, if your house is going up in flames thanks to the Christmas tree try using some fairy dust. That will sort it out!
Not everyone puts a fairy on top of the Christmas tree. Some of us might pop a star up as a symbol of Jesus’ birth. Which may have been in June or July rather than December, but that’s a topic for another day.
In the Bible, the wise men followed this bright light to find baby Jesus and worshiped him by placing gifts at his feet. The Star of Bethlehem is also known as the ‘Star that Led Them to Him’!
The first Christmas stars and fairies were put on top of houses rather than trees in Germany to represent the star that led Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem.
Fairy Means Fertility
Fairies may be a symbol of fertility, but it’s also a symbol of the German tradition. In that tradition, fairies are believed to live inside trees and bushes. They’re not only good for your health — they can help you get pregnant! The reason why we put fairies on top of Christmas trees is that they represent “happiness on earth.”
