5 Things I Love About the New Tipping Jar Feature

☕Why I’ll be supporting writers via Medium’s new tipping jar…

Medium has just launched it’s tipping jar in beta mode and I couldn’t be more excited!

This means I can finally support my favourite writers who I have learned from or who inspire me.

But wait there is a catch!

The tipping system currently works via a third party provider.

So, you’ll need to be registered with Paypal, Patreon or Ko-Fi.

As I am turbo charged by coffee I thought I’d sign up to Ko-Fi. It’s like a match made it heaven.

Here’s what it looks like 👇

I’d love for this beta testing stage to be a success as it’s another way to show our support to other writers. I’m so thankful to Tony Stubblebine and his team for making this possible.

5 Things I Love About the New Tipping Feature

  1. It’s flexible — you can use the tipping service of your choice and one that is available in your country.
  2. It’s inclusive — Writers that aren’t eligible for Partner Program (MPP) can now be rewarded for their writing.
  3. A way to give back — I can support the writers that have inspired me or I learned something from. I love being able to give back to the writing community in my own terms. I’ve already supported several writers!
  4. Super accessible — It’s super easy to use and set up.
  5. A confidence builder — Receiving a tip is a great confidence builder for new writers. It will also show potential niche areas.

Bonus: It’s not restrictive — Unlike the membership referral programme you have the opportunity to support multiple writers!

What I’d Love to See…

I’d love to see a ‘piggy bank’ feature, where users could store up a percentage of our earnings to invest back into the works of other writers, without having to use our credit or debit cards. It seems…
